Though my father and mother have the heart and paradigm of local pastors they are the ones who taught me to always reach beyond. We didn’t have a “traditional” church. They taught me to never settle for less than reaching out to the neediest members of our community: children and the elderly vulnerable to the effects of crime and poverty.
When their church was in the city they bused kids in from the inner city. The kids loved my father’s games and my mother’s plays so much that they begged to come.
Now their church is in the country and they bring kids by the carloads from the neighborhoods and trailer parks.
